Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 23, 2026

SMTC is designed to work locally on your device. Your audio files, sections, and practice data stay on your phone. We do not have user accounts, we do not operate servers that store your data, and we do not sell or share personal information with third parties for advertising purposes.

The one exception is our Pro stem separation feature, which requires uploading your audio file to a third-party AI processing service in order to split it into individual instrument stems. This upload happens only when you explicitly initiate it.

Information We Collect

Information you provide

Audio files. You import audio files from your device into the app. These files are copied to the app's local storage on your device and are not uploaded to any server unless you explicitly use the AI stem separation feature described below.

Practice data. Sections, tags, playlists, and settings you create are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data is not transmitted to us.

Information collected automatically

Audio recognition. When you import a track, a short sample of the audio (up to 800KB) may be sent to AudD (audd.io), a third-party music recognition service, to identify the song title and artist. This is used solely to display accurate track metadata within the app. AudD's privacy policy is available at audd.io/privacy. If you do not configure an AudD API token, no audio data is sent to this service.

AI stem separation (Pro feature). When you choose to separate a track into individual stems (e.g., vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano), the full audio file is uploaded to a third-party AI audio processing service for server-side analysis. This upload occurs only when you explicitly tap the "Separate Stems" button and confirm. The audio is used solely to perform the separation and generate the resulting stem files, which are then downloaded back to your device. We do not control how long the third-party service retains the uploaded audio. No other personal data is sent alongside the audio file.

Subscription management. If you purchase a Pro subscription, the transaction is handled by Google Play and managed through RevenueCat (revenuecat.com), a third-party subscription management service. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous app user identifier to track your subscription status. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, or audio data. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Crash and diagnostic data. The app may collect standard crash reports and performance data through the platform's built-in mechanisms (Google Play services). This data is anonymous and does not include your audio files or practice data.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any other personal information. We do not use analytics SDKs or advertising frameworks.

How We Use Information

We do not use any collected information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than providing the app's core functionality.

Data Storage and Security

All of your audio files, stems, sections, tags, playlists, and settings are stored locally on your device. This data is not backed up to our servers because we do not operate data-collection servers.

Audio files uploaded for stem separation are transmitted over HTTPS. Once the resulting stems have been downloaded to your device, we do not retain any copy of your audio.

If you uninstall the app or clear its data, all locally stored information is permanently deleted.

Children's Privacy

SMTC is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.

Your Rights and Choices

Control stem separation uploads. Audio files are only uploaded for stem separation when you explicitly initiate the process. You are never required to use this feature. If you do not use AI stem separation, no audio files leave your device.

Delete your data. You can delete all app data at any time from Settings → Clear All Data. Uninstalling the app also removes all locally stored data.

Manage your subscription. You can manage or cancel your Pro subscription through Google Play. See Google's instructions for details.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
